RedECA
Network of Circular Economy in Agriculture
About us

The Network of Circular Economy in Agriculture, RedECA, emerged from the joint work between Universidad de Medellín, Universidad EAFIT and Institución Universitaria Pascual Bravo, in research projects related to the application of Circular Economy concepts in Agriculture.
In RedECA, we are concerned about several environmental problems: the discharge of industrial wastewaters, the pollution derived from agro-industrial waste, the leaching of nitrogen and phosphorus caused by inorganic fertilizers used in agriculture, the accumulation of cadmium and other metals in crops intended for human consumption, and the environmental and economic sustainability of agriculture.
In response to these problems, RedECA focuses its efforts on scientific research, in order to generate solutions for the reuse of industrial waste to obtain products that improve productivity in agriculture, and reduce its environmental impact, closing production cycles in a context of circular economy. Our efforts are also focused on the public dissemination of science and on the training of students in scientific research at different levels, integrating them into the projects of our network.
As a result of our efforts, we have students who have successfully completed their undergraduate, master's, and doctoral level work. RedECA also has alliances with the productive and academic sector, scientific publications and educational documents.
